Sometimes to distract my brain from drawing I draw. I have understood my brain to draw on two types of roads. One is creative drawing. Developing, fleshing out ideas and shapes.
Two is less creative. Drawing to learn to draw better using existing templates or concepts. Teaching myself to refine and define for sake of the craft and not the idea. This brings me to sketch covers!
A sketch cover is typically a blank comic cover with the title only. Comic companies have made these for goof balls like me to take it upon myself to draw the featured character in MY image. Any one can attain these special covers. They are called “Blank Sketch Variants” They are sold at comic specialty stores. If there is not one close simply go on ebay type the key word I mentioned and BAM!
I have to admit I am a bit compulsive with these. I have little time to sell them as I complete them, so I just put them aside. I have a little over 40 completed now. I have decided to list a few on ebay this week (here is a link)
Here are a few I have completed sprinkled throughout the weeks:
Skips from Regular Show.
I had to prime a light coat of Gesso because the cover is too slick. Luckily the covers are very thick, so there was no warping. After priming I added water colors in layers.
Here is a Deadpool #1 Sketch cover. The back has a uncomfortable looking Wolverine at the edge of his sword.
Last but not least Grey/Green Arrow. This is the first of a series of drawings I will create Grey Aliens dressed as Super Heroes.
